Be a key part of shaping this future as our new Housing Specialist in our Housing Program. Reporting to the Senior Director of Housing and Development, the Housing Specialist is primarily responsible to identify scattered site housing units for clients who are homeless throughout Santa Clara County. The Housing Specialist works closely with landlords and property managers in building a network of readily available housing for our clients to move into and sustain for permanent housing. The Housing Specialist works closely with survivors and their advocates to identify their housing needs and pair them with available housing that meets their identified needs. Maintain a caseload of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking; assess housing and service needs; arrange, coordinate and monitor the delivery of individualized services, develop a goal plan to assist client in maintaining permanent housing. The Housing Specialist conveys empathy, respect and compassion to survivors when delivering services. The Housing Specialist is a member of a high-preforming team and supports all activities related to the coordination of permanent housing stability and operations. To ensure safety, the Housing Specialist must not fail to respond effectively to safety threats, conflicts and crisis situations. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or college course work in Human Services field or equivalent combination of education and experience in housing industry.
Additionally have a minimum of two years’ experience working in social services or as a realtor, property manager or housing specialist and has a strong knowledge of Santa Clara County housing market and geography. Minimum two years’ experience with chronically homeless individuals and experience with housing vouchers.
Desired: Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills highly preferred. Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese languages. Prior experience providing case management or advocacy-based counseling highly preferred. Motivational Interviewing skills highly preferred.
Required: Cleared background check (fingerprinting), valid TB test, valid California driver's license, and auto insurance. Must have completed or be willing to complete a 65-hour California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided).
