Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus (Advancing Justice-ALC) seeks a full-time Senior Program Coordinator or Junior Staff Attorney for its Voting Rights and Census team. This one-year position is an exciting opportunity to lead our Election Year 2020 work, which will include running our poll-monitoring program, creating Know-Your-Voting-Rights materials and messaging, and conducting voter education workshops, among other projects. Despite legislation that makes voting in California easier, massive voter participation disparities persist. In the November 2018 election, just 33% of eligible Asian Americans and just 36% of eligible Latinos in California turned out to vote. For everyone else, voter turnout was above 60%. These gaps are actually larger than the same gaps in 2014. The goal of our work is to build an inclusive California electorate that actually reflects California’s diverse demographics and hears the voices of our communities. The Voting Rights and Census program uses a combination of litigation, legal advocacy, policy development, and community organizing on projects.
