Reporting to the Housing Program Manager, the Emergency Support Specialist provides mobile community response services i.e., counseling and safety planning at various off-site locations where survivors are temporarily housed. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or college course work in social services field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should have knowledge of sensitivity to sexual assault and domestic violence issues, trauma, gender equity and/or other forms of oppression. Understanding and application of program theories such as trauma-informed care, feminist, and anti-oppression/anti-discrimination frameworks are key. Candidate must be open to work weekends and evenings and provide on-call support when needed.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
Provides mobile community response services, i.e. counseling and safety planning at various off- site locations where survivors are temporarily housed, including case management to survivors and their families temporarily housed in hotels with the goal of obtaining permanent housing or long term shelter
Supports the work of the team/organization by coordinating the daily management of program activities, including but not limited to, 24-hour crisis-line response, triaging temporarily housed clients, providing timely and consistent client follow-up, screenings and assessments
Desired:
Bilingual, bi-cultural and bi-literate skills highly preferred. Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese languages
Prior experience providing case management or advocacy-based counseling highly preferred
Motivational Interviewing skills highly preferred
Required:
Cleared background check (fingerprinting)
Valid TB test
Valid California driver’s license, and auto insurance
Must have completed or be willing to complete a 65-hour California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided)
