HomeFirst Vaccination Outreach and Education Team (VOET) is designed to provide homeless individuals at encampments, shelters, and county and community sites with education and availability of the COVID-19 vaccination. Outreach Specialists will be paired in teams to visit these sites and provide educational information regarding the benefits of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as well as potential side effects. The Outreach Specialist will be responsible for surveying individuals about their willingness to receive the vaccination and supporting homeless individuals with scheduling appointments and/or transportation to receive the vaccination. The goal of this program is to educate and support homeless individuals in their options regarding the COVID-19 vaccination.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct Service 80%
Provide outreach to encampments, vaccination sites, emergency shelters, and other county and community sites.
Providing education and clear information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine's availability, side effects, and benefits.
Engage with individuals by listening and validating any concerns or issues while providing support as needed to work through any barriers the individual is facing.
Survey individuals on willingness or hesitancy to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: General 20%
Complete all appropriate data collection, documentation, and tracking of activities within three business days.
Attend training and meetings to gain an understanding of the benefits and side effects of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Properly report any suspected cases of abuse.
Attend all team meetings and supervision sessions
Know and follow agency and program policies and procedures.
Having personal (lived experience) or professional experiences with homelessness
Knowledge of highly utilized locations in Santa Clara County where homeless congregate and camp
Basic knowledge of COVID-19 vaccination
High school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field a plus
Ability to walk long distances
