Job Description

The outreach and referrals coordinator will be responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of First Call for Families’s community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities include developing and maintaining relationships with community-based organizations, communicating with potential clients, and assisting in First Call’s intake processes. The outreach and referrals coordinator will also serve as a liaison to County DFCS social workers and a point of contact for DFCS social workers making referrals to First Call.

The outreach and referrals coordinator will also participate on an as-needed basis in Child and Family Team (CFT) or Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings arranged by DFCS social workers to facilitate connections between potential clients and the First Call team.

Desired Qualifications • MSW or MFT preferred but not required. • Strong communication and bridge-building skills. • Connections to service providers and community-based organizations in Santa Clara County. • Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with clients in crisis. • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team of attorneys and mentor parents with lived experience. • Trained in cultural competency, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed service delivery. • Bilingual skills preferred.

Organization Description

Dependency Advocacy Center (DAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides interdisciplinary family defense legal services to indigent parents and children involved with Santa Clara County’s child welfare system and the juvenile dependency court. Our adult clients face the risk of permanent separation from their children due to allegations of abuse and neglect. Substance use disorder, intimate partner violence, and mental health concerns are commonly presenting issues, often rooted in the layered effects of poverty, marginalization, and intergenerational trauma.

DAC was founded on the belief that traditional legal advocacy is insufficient to adequately represent our parent and youth clients. Our approach to holistic family defense utilizes an interdisciplinary team of attorneys, social workers, and mentor parents to create client-centered legal strategies designed to support the family’s long-term success.

First Call for Families (First Call) is an innovative program operated by DAC. First Call’s goal is to prevent children from being separated from their families by avoiding formal involvement with juvenile dependency court.
