Job Description

Working Partnerships USA seeks an enthusiastic, hard-working organizer to advance worker and housing justice in the South Bay Area. This position will play a critical role in the organization’s strategic vision for an organized base of workers, tenants, people of color, and immigrant communities that will advance unprecedented policy and organizing campaigns to improve the lives of working people in Silicon Valley. The ideal candidate will have experience with direct organizing and civic engagement, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity for low-income and immigrant communities, and communities of color. They will be a confident leader and on-the-ground organizer with the ability to nurture relationships, listen and communicate effectively, and run ground-breaking organizing campaigns. Reporting to the Organizing Director, the Organizer will drive the development of a broad membership base, and facilitate ongoing engagement with this base to inform and plan future work streams. This membership will be composed of workers and community members willing to act to address our housing crisis, and fight back against the increasing concentration of power wielded by the wealthy and corporations. The Organizer will be responsible for the recruitment of new members, the coordination of member engagement and committees, the development of member-leaders and member-volunteers, and the organization of collective action, among other responsibilities.

Description Key Responsibilities

Engage in diverse outreach tactics, including visits to peoples’ homes and communities, to learn from constituents and recruit and grow a membership base. Develop representative organizing committees and train them to move organizing campaigns Build capacity among potential and existing members; gather feedback from membership base to inform future work, engage in leadership development with new leaders and member-volunteers Support the Organizing Director and other staff to evaluate and coordinate campaign planning and execution Work with the Organizing Director and other staff to schedule and facilitate meetings with potential and existing members, long-term agenda discussions, and other membership-oriented engagement activities Inform the Organizing Director and other supervisors of activities, developments and progress of organizing activity, including worker meetings Maintain ongoing coordination, supervision, and relationship-building with members Manage, track and analyze outreach, engagement, and membership data in a database Track daily progress towards goals, meet goals and deadlines, and make recommendations to Organizing Director Promptly return phone calls, especially to members Accept and apply feedback and constructive criticism from supervisor(s) Participate in voter engagement efforts. Perform other duties as required to support the organization’s broader work

Qualifications The ideal candidate

Has proven commitment to social, racial, economic, environmental, and gender justice Has at least three years of experience leading union or community organizing campaigns, preferably related to housing Possesses excellent people skills and leadership capacity Has a strong work ethic and personal commitment to excellence Works well with others, and has a strong willingness to learn and be flexible Is able to multitask, and pays attention to details while managing and meeting timelines Is able to work some evenings and Saturdays Is able to travel within Santa Clara County, and occasionally to other locations in the greater Bay Area if needed Has a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle Has excellent written and verbal communications skills Has demonstrated ability to work well under pressure Deeply respects people from all walks of life, and their essential role in contributing to social change Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database software Speaks English, and preferably is fluent in Spanish or Vietnamese
